So the Brewers have started off pretty bad this season. Whats up with that? Most fans had high hopes of a decent pitching staff and a great offense but have gotten neither one. I mean i know its only 12 games in, and there are 150 games left, so its a small sample, but our bullpen has more wins than our starting pitchers do. And our bullpen has been pretty bad too, LaTroy Hawkins has blown leads in his last 2 games, the pitching staff has given up more homeruns than any other pitching staff in the majors.
I know its early, but in my opinion Doug Melvin has to go... He's a good GM if the team has a pitching staff... But then again he's never had a good pitching staff... Look at when he was the GM back for the Texas Rangers. Did you know that Doug Melvin was a Minor League pitcher for the Pirates and Yankees in 1972–78? So wouldn't you think he would know what good pitching is? Then again he never made it to the majors so maybe not. In the years that DM was the GM for the Rangers (1994-2001) the Rangers pitching staff never finished higher than 13th in the league. (15th, 17th, 13th, 23rd, 27th, 23rd, 30th (last), and 30th (last)). In his 7 years with the Brewers the pitching staff has finished 25th, 12th, 10th, 25th, 15th, 4th (CC Sabathia, 2008)and 26th. Forgive me if I am wrong but I think that this year the pitching staff is in the bottom 6 or 7 in the Majors. yes, like I have said earlier, its early in the year, but thing are not looking good at all so far.
So they need to do something about it, and I think that if the pitching staff finishes in the bottom third of the league again, that Doug Melvin should be fired.
